My Intern, Emily, at the Chappaqua Farmer's Market
Every Saturday, during the outdoor season, local farmers and vendors gather at the Chappaqua Train Station to sell their produce, baked goods, cheeses, eggs, fruit, fish, and prepared foods, such as jams, condiments, and pickles. There’s also local entertainment, local hospitality, and even local knife sharpening. The markets mission is to provide space for local, small-scale farmers and producers to sell their natural or organically cultivated products directly to the consumer.
My summer intern, Emily Borgeest, is an enterprising young woman. She sells her healthy line of granola and other snacks called Cleo’s Wholesome Crunch at the farmer’s market, all of which are organic and gluten free. As you know, I love a good farmer’s market and Emily was happy to share her photos.
2 This past weekend, the market was busy with people buying treats for Father's Day and graduation parties.
4 This is Emily at her tent for Cleo's Wholesome Crunch. Emily will be a senior this fall at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
5 Cleo is Emily's middle name. Her products are made with all natural ingredients, with no refined sugar or preservatives.
6 The granola is a combination of rolled oats, nuts, seeds, raisins, banana chips, coconut, and is sweetened with natural agave nectar. There is also a gluten-free version.
8 There are also four kinds of cookies, three of which are gluten-free, and all are dairy, soy, and preservative-free and sweetened with agave nectar.
10 Emily's twin sister, Erica, assists Emily in her business. Erica will be a senior in the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University this fall.
11 Kings Roaming Angus Farm, owned by Andrew King, is located in Cobleskill, New York, where he raises beef, pork, chickens, and turkeys.
14 He sells a variety of pickles, including full-sour, half-sour, kosher dill, hot and spicy, horseradish, and sweet pickle chips.
15 There are also olives, sun-dried tomatoes, marinated artichokes, sauerkraut, hot cherry peppers, sweet peppers, marinated mushrooms and marinated celery.
16 Diane Morgiewicz, Richy Andryshak, and Jennifer Cutler are farmers from Goshen, New York. They've been vending at local farmer's markets for 14 years.
23 Renee McCaine-Taylor of Bedford Hills, sells her homemade jams and jellies. She's a special ed teacher and makes jam during her free time. website www.reneesjams.com
27 Different flavors are made by mixing the cheese with oils, garlic, herbs, tomatoes, and roasted peppers.
29 Sarah Heza of Bread Alone has been selling her bread at farmer's markets for 8 years. http://www.breadalone.com/home
31 The Bread Alone bakery is located in Boiceville, New York, at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains.
33 There is fresh honey from Honey Locust Farm House in Newburgh, New York. http://www.honeylocustfarmhouse.com/home.html
34 Sean Carmody brings Taiim Falafel Shack to the market from Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, offering delicious hummus and babaghanouj. www.taiimfalafelshack.com
35 Aimee Milano owns Big Girl Baking Co. with her sisters, Regina and Jody. http://www.biggirlbaking.com/

All of those foods and things look so delicious, but I liked the fresh veggies the best. The tomatoes made me want a good old-timey tomato sandwich on old-timey Graham Bread, (which I dont think you can buy anymore), with mayo slathered on it and salt and peppr. Yuuuumy!!!!

My family and I buy from pickleicious weekly. It's nice to a business do it the old fashion way. We're lucky enough to have wonderful farmers markets nearby during the summer months. Hardly have to make it to the store when we find all our food local.

Wonderful market photos and wish we had more open around here but spring is so late. Kennedy,(6 yr.old)is selling her eggs this summer. She did learn to read in kindergarten and is working on math and saving up for a game.
Vera (86 yr, old) still sells her Chokcherry jelly at farmers markets and might be saving up for retirement. Martha, you look great on twitter at Cannes, but Robert Reford's handsome days seem past..

Tried Cleo's Wholesome Crunch and loved it! Cookies are a delicious treat that I leave in the frig and snack on through out the day. Good work Emily!

Hi Martha,
Thanks Emily and the next time I make granola, I’m going to use agave nectar and add banana chips and coconut. I saw some nectar in the store the other day but I wasn’t sure how I would use it and now I know! I would like to have a word with whoever wrote up the chalk board – Celebrate is spelled wrong – ‘e’ not ‘a’. lol
~
Renee’s jams look great too as well as everything on the Picklelicious table. Clever name. I wish we had more markets like that down here but it would be too hot for tents in the summer. Thanks again for sharing Emily and also for making me hungry! Trish

Martha, I was just telling my mom the other day that we haven't been to our local farmer's market (Tues. & Sat.) this year yet. I think we'll pay them a visit this Saturday. Thanks for the reminder and for sharing this blog.

Hi Martha, Emily is not only a great intern for you, she is also a very 'Marthable' young lady! She must be busy all the time doing her work, attending college, making natural organic 'Cleo's Wholesome Crunch' products, selling them at Chappaqua Farmer's Market, taking beautiful photos, etc.! Those photos of that farmer's market are wonderful and I sure would love to visit it some day-will add to my list of places to see in New York! I've never seen a farmer's market with so many different products! Thanks so much for sharing, Emily! Martha, sure hope you have another fabulous day in Cannes! Off to see The Daily Wag about a Garden Tour and Cookies! Jan

Great pics! I am wanting to get in touch with either Martha Stewart, herself, or someone on her product development team. I have a patentable idea for a new product. Thank you.

It's always interesting to peek at other farmers markets. I'm interested in the packaging and what items are offered. The half sours really caught my attention!

This lovely market has the best strawberries, fresh onions and gluten free goodies. It's wonderful on so many levels to eat locally. There are over 50 more Farmers' markets in the Hudson Valley. Check out the one nearest you.
