Ahhh!!! The basking hounds - Francesca and Sharkey. They spent a good deal of time outdoors yesterday.
This moss looks so vividly green after being covered with snow most of the winter.
Look how lush and 'fur-like'.
These leathery Boston fern have remained very green.
And here's a clump of wild grass ready to sprout.
The little brooks are so full with all the melting snow.
This is a decaying tree stump, now the happy home of moss and other types of plants.
I came upon this odd mushroom which had sprouted from the trunk of a tree - it's kind of frozen in time.
A closeup of the mushroom - it's so dried out and well-preserved.
Here's the bigger picture - notice the mushroom toward the bottom of the tree?
The brooks all sounded so gurgling and pleasant.
I saw several little white pine seedlings - all looked healthy and ready to grow tall.
One of my fields uncovered as the snow melts. We planted these maple trees a year ago and they all seem in very good shape.
This lichen also looks very healthy after its time beneath the snow.
It's interesting to see how the snow melts away from rocks - they absorb so much heat from the sun.
It's also interesting to see how the snow melts away from beneath trees, like this sycamore. It's because of moisture dripping from the branches.
This is the stump of another sycamore that fell after being compromised from an earlier lightning strike.
Two gurgling brooks converging.
My winding carriage road becoming exposed again.
One tiny stream now raging.
Meindert is really itching for spring to arrive.
Billy and Clive, two of my miniature donkeys are also ready for spring to arrive.
It seems as though the daffodils poke out of the ground earlier and earlier each year. What's going on?
They're really anxious for spring.
This is my giant sunken cement bird bath. I'm sure the birds are wondering when their 'spa' will be open for business again.
I haven't seen this plaque all winter because it was buried in snow. It lies beneath the beautiful maple planted in her honor.
This moss also looks healthy and happy.
I'm sure the chickens will be happy when the snow finally melts away.
