How To Herald Spring? Grow Pussy Willows!

After such a long and brutal winter, it's so refreshing to discover a few of the harbingers of spring.  Some of my favorite early season heralds are the soft, velvety paws of the pussy willow (Salix discolor).  The pussy willow tree is mainly grown for its small furry catkins.  However, in autumn, the tree is pleasant to look at as its leaves turn a soft yellow and in winter, depending on the variety, its branches are red, purple, or brown.  After purchasing my farm, I soon found the perfect location to plant an entire mixed-variety pussy willow grove - the moist edge of the wetlands.
