Blog Memories: Antiquing in Palm Beach, Florida

No visit to Palm Beach is complete without a little shopping.
During my recent trip to Florida, my friend, Lisbeth Barron, and I took some time to walk through some of the wonderful antique shops along Dixie Highway, Worth Avenue, North Palm Beach, and areas near Jupiter. We had so much fun touring the different galleries filled with fine furniture, vintage glassware, garden ornaments, and other decorating pieces - I always take lots of photos of items that interest and inspire me.

- The Silver Fund is a unique shop that mixes 20th-century silver, furniture, and various design pieces. Founded in 1996, the shop is the largest dealer worldwide in estate Georg Jensen silver. In addition, there is also a comprehensive collection of Georg Jensen holloware, and other works by Jean Puiforicat, William Spratling, and Antonio Pineda. - Among the more whimsical pieces, I saw this series of Murano glass clowns designed and made by Alfredo Barbini in Italy around 1950.

- I also saw this fun lamp base – at the bottom, a pretty fish scene complete with bubbles.

- And here is a very heavy brass vanity mirror I spotted on a nearby table.

- We also stopped into the Palm Beach Antique & Design Center. I love the straight lines of this vintage George Nelson mid-century modern slat bench from the 1950s. It is very rare because of its long length and one of only three that were made. It is more than eight-feet long. www.palmbeachantique.com

- This is a beautiful decorative vintage Mexican sunburst mirror with a convex center and punched tin detail. It was made around the 1960s when this sunburst style was quite popular. It is on sale for 7800-dollars.

- And I love the color of this vintage Paul McCobb cabinet with blue doors from the Planner Group. This one is 60-inches wide.

- Here is what it looks like inside – beautiful dark wood drawers. This American piece dates to the 1950s.

- This smaller matching cabinet is 36-inches wide and nearly 34-inches tall.

- Here is a Vincent Sheppard chair. Vincent Sheppard has been designing and manufacturing indoor and outdoor furniture since 1992. Its headquarters are in Belgium, but many of its pieces are made in Indonesia, a country known for its rich tradition in weaving. https://www.vincentsheppard.com/

- These are three 20th century Italian glass globe pendants with white swirl motifs. The chain ware is brass and each is about 15-inches wide.

- We spent a few minutes at an estate sale nearby – there were lots of vintage glassware pieces to see.

- I took a photo of this glass with its stem decorated with a swimming fish.

- Chris and Melanie Hill are the owners of Kofski Antiques on County Road in Palm Beach. Their main store carries lighting, porcelain, silver, furniture, and art. http://kofski.com

- On their windowsill, they also had a nice collection of vintage glassware.

- Decorum is a showroom warehouse and gallery of upscale designer, vintage and antique furnishings, accessories and art on Upland Road in West Palm Beach. There are so many things to see here. http://www.decorumfurnishings.com

- I love the large stoneware crock on the floor. Crocks were traditionally used for preserving vegetables. Today, these vessels are used for kitchen storage. The crocks are lead-free and food safe. Sometimes you can even find them with lids.

- There are also many vintage dishes and other ceramics.

- We stopped at Hall Hardware, Inc., a small, locally-owned full-service hardware store since 1945. What a fun place to explore – they had everything. http://hallhardware.doitbest.com/home.aspx

- There was an entire row of wheelbarrows lining the front of the store.

- Judy always has such beautiful pieces in her shop – here is an English chest of drawers, a pair of stone sheep from France and a faux zebra print rug on the floor.

- This antique cabinet is also a pretty piece with its detailed drawers.

- We made our way to Authentic Provence Antiques. They carry many beautiful French garden antiques, and vintage and contemporary home decor. http://www.authenticprovence.com

- Here is a decorative floral piece made of stone.

- And here is a large outdoor wall sconce.

- I am always drawn to garden pieces – look closely and you can see that these flowers were placed in two antique watering cans.

- I also liked these antique wooden lanterns – there was a smaller matching pair nearby.

- Here is a collection of outdoor lighting pieces – I love the shape of the bulbs.

- Authentic Provence also has a lovely collection of garden decorations. Some were kept in this charming greenhouse.

- Antique and vintage garden tools from England were on display on this wall. It was a very fun and inspiring day shopping.
