More amazing roses!
On the morning of the rose shoot, I had a wonderful opportunity to see the 2009 rose collection of Harvest Wholesale. The display took place at the events room at Lelabar , a lovely wine bar in downtown Manhattan. Upon entering, I was met with the heady aroma of the most incredible exhibit of glorious roses, each one more beautiful than the next. I wish I could replicate that intoxicating fragrance. It was just so pleasing. Here are even more photos for all you rose lovers to enjoy!

I love all of the beautiful rose varieties! I especially love the ruffled variety and the circus roses. My husband and I had hundreds of circus roses at our fall wedding in October of 2007. I look forward to reading your blog! Thanks for sharing your life!

Martha, that favorite rose of yours, I just adore!!! Where can I buy a plant of the "Secret Garden" rose? I'm assuming it's a hybrid tea and I can't find it yet. Thanks. Lila

It wasn't easy choosing a favorite but I did manage to do so.
I would love to see a few Secret Garden's mixed with some Peppermint roses. I think they would make a fabulous bouguet!
Mmmmmmmmm! the aroma is so sweet.

I can hardly wait to see your blog from that historic trip. Hope it's not too cold. Jan

Ok Martha,
The white rose #10 in your blog is called Patience, oh do I need a truck load of those babies. I have never had any patience My favorite rose is the white long stemmed they just touch me more so then the colored roses.
They are beautiful roses and all colors have special meaning of course. Salmon roses or coral pink are most beautiful too, even the deep yellow ones are pretty and mean purelove or is it sorrow/friendship/sympathy? I forget all the meanings for the roses but have a list around here someplace.
I love Carnations too but their scent always reminds me of funerals so I rarely buy them for my home.
Thank you for another round of roses in today's blog.
I read a wonderful saying along time ago and use it now and again. "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I would forever walk in a garden."
Rose gardens always bring a big smile to my face they remind me of happy faces of rainbow colors.
Looking forward to another week of Martha show and blogs. I just re watched the American Farmer show from November 2008, one of my favorite shows of the past four seasons.

A Rose that God Created
Guest Author - Danielle Hollister
A ROSE THAT GOD CREATED
God created the rose in the likeness of a woman.
The rose represents her beauty.
The stem represents her strength.
The petals are soft as her delicate skin, the fragrance so pure and so sweet.
The leaves represent her arms outstretched, always loving and giving
and for perfection --- He made her heart of pure gold.
Thank you God for making me a woman...

It is so nice to see these beautiful flowers in the middle of all this snow we are having now. And such gorgeous deep colors too.

Oh so beautiful after a day of a Boston snow storm with a new foot and one half of snow on my garden deck and on top of my window boxes burying my hypernating tulip bulbs! It brings back poignant memories of my grandfather's rose gardens. He had the green thumb and these pictures bring my memories rushing back! Thank you!

More roses to look at today! Thanks for all the pictures of this most beautiful flower.
I like the Secret Garden too but the mauve ones are my favorite - such a pretty color!

I've always been a fan of white roses as well as fire and ice roses. I think if I had to choose a favorite here I was quite fond of the circus variety.
Of course all roses are beautiful and I wouldn't complain if there were any color sitting on the table

Hi Martha,
There is everything to love about a rose! They are all so beautiful although I didn’t realize there were so many different varieties. I think I like the mauves and the Capriccios the best but a bouquet of any one of them right now would be heavenly. Thanks for your nice photos and I look forward to seeing the story in MSL.
Have a great time tomorrow; I wish I could go too but actually, I’ll be happy to watch everything on TV. I like to stay warm! Trish

Thank you for sharing this in your blog. The roses were stunning - I studied them all. Thanks for sharing an experience most of us would not have the chance to share. I adore your blog and come here for daily inspiration.
The Capricio roses were stunning.

Well now I just want my husband to go out and buy me roses! He'll appreciate it ever so much!!
Thanks for the photos - they are beautiful.

Now how hard was that? Taking pictures of roses...unless each time you prepared to shoot the fragrance pulled the face into the bloom and away from the camera......

These roses are lovely. I miss New York, although I try to get in often. I live in Boston and well, there's nothing like Manhattan. Once upon a time I lived in Hong Kong and their flower market is filled with roses from all over the world. What an inspiration that was to experience.

Beautiful! I'm not great with roses, but I'm learning. I've got 3 small "Janet" rosebushes in my front landscaping and when they're good, they're great!
Hey, check out my blog. I designed an awesome t-shirt with you in mind. Not to sell of course, just for chuckles. Seriously, it's a good thing. http://www.renee-whatwouldmarthado.blogspot.com

Oh wow! Roses are just the... most... beau.ti.ful flowers of all!
Thanks for letting us see them, even here if far-flung Egypt. We do get some roses in the tiny flower stalls but not many.
My faves are the deep yellows and corals and the blue one called "Blue Moon"... gorgeous!
Have a great week Martha.
Love

Martha sounded like you have a cold on today's show or getting one better bundle up really good tomorrow.
I bet the businesses who sale "outhouses" will make a bundle tomorrow, I couldn't resist!
I envision you with two cameras clicking constantly and you won't know which way to turn fast enough.
Have fun but be careful out there in that mega crowd.

The roses are absolutely beautiful! Now I really can't wait for spring to come:) Also, that's the first time I ever saw a "flat" rose.

For a moment, I'm sure I could smell those through the computer. Maybe it was the laundry. I really like that little pink and green rose, and I just swore today that I wasn't going to buy any more plants, as my son and I repotted three roses that I can't find room for in the yard, and took up the poor bearded irises that have been hanging in there year after year without getting enough sun.
I have a David Austin rose called "Ellen" that is perhaps my favorite color, a pale pink-orange. It is an English-type rose with that crumpled Kleenex look in the center. This rose is a rampant grower for me in Los Angeles, sending long canes out like a fountain and I would put it on an arbor except that it would shade the last real sunny spot in my yard. As well, my daughter's name is Ellen Rose. All rather accidental. I believe that if one's daughter has the middle name of Rose they most likely can find a rose with her first name to plant. Alas, my daughter is not much impressed and doesn't really care for her middle name.

Martha,
If you are ever in Portland, Oregon in the summer or early fall, you MUST go to the International Rose Test Garden. Portland is called the Rose City for a reason. Roses flourish for months here in the Pacific Northwest. I was so surprised after moving from New England to see roses blooming into late September and October. The test garden is probably at its best in early to mid August, when the largest variety of roses are in bloom. This is where new hybrids are tested before recognition, and there are a huge range of old standards and lesser-known hybrids, with new ones added each year. The smell of the roses is wonderful, and the views of the city from the park are very pretty.
Portland also happens to be a foodie heaven - I'd love to see an episode of your show feature some of the city's great independent food and drink producers, farmers markets and restaurants.
