A Special Birthday Gift
Last week, I posted a blog about having lunch with my summer interns. It was really great to spend time with such an enthusiastic group of young men and women. As many of you know, I celebrate my birthday on August 3rd and intern, Carrie Krochta, organized the interns in a card-making project. Carrie got nice paper stock from the craft department and cut it into 6x6-inch squares. She invited all of the interns to come up with their own creations. I was very touched when I was presented with this thoughtful and creative gift. Please have a look at all of their actual cards!
1 Interns - Rene Chan, Carrie Krochta, and Tracy Chou made this lovely box to hold all of my birthday cards.
2 This box was covered with Martha Stewart paper.
3 It contained many impressive handmade birthday greetings.

Such a thoughtful and lovely gesture on the intern's part and incredibly wonderful of you to fully showcase them. Their future employers will be very lucky to add such talented people to their companies.

What an interesting selection of cards: some are very good indeed and creative. You have some truly artistic and talented interns, some of whom show a definite design flair. It's a tradition in my family and among close friends that we always give homemade cards, often by using in jokes, personal photos or other items that resonate. It would make a good article for MSL magazine as making a great card isn't as easy as it looks! Thanks for sharing.

Happy Belated Birthday Martha!
Making handmade birthday cards was a wonderful idea. Your interns are very creative. I am sure that you will treasure the cards for many years to come.
I hope that all of your birthday wishes come true!

Hi Martha,
Heart felt gifts are always the best and the admiration this group of interns expressed for you in their messages must have made your day extra special. They said some very true and nice things about you that I agree with and I liked the kidding too, especially from Angelica about cloth. I did not know this about Jean-Baptiste Colbert, nor have I ever heard of him so I learned something new today from one of your interns! Thanks for sharing their cards which I’m sure will make them feel extra special too! Trish

Dear Martha,
you certainly have some talented interns working with you, and very creative too.
Happy belated birthday from "down under"

Very nice! Obviously, you have some very talented interns working for you. By the way, do you hire anyone over the age of 40? Everyone on your staff(s) seem to be 20 or 30 something.

Great cards. I like #34 and I really like the "It's a Good Thing" card as it hits the mark and is simple. It's wonderful that so many opportunities exist today for learning. thanks Martha.

Hi Martha, What a thoughtful thing your summer interns did for you! It's easy to tell that these young people are perfect interns and that they are inspired by you and MSLO to do the best that they can do! Your photos of these fantastic birthday cards are so much fun to look at and I can tell that you were thrilled! I love the beautiful box they were in and photos #17,19&24 are my favorites! Kudos to all of your summer interns! Love, Jan

I think it is a good idea to start a card line. I have lots of beautiful pictures that I wanted to turn into greeting cards, but way back then...there weren't as many different materials for cards as there is now. And, now, I don't know how to start, so Martha...it is up to you.

Have to agree - Martha Stewart Greeting Cards would be very appropriate! The amount of interesting and varied 'subjects' from your farm alone would support an entire line.

Judging by the quality of your birthday wishes, you did indeed select the correct Interns for 2010 Martha!

I had as much fun reading the blog comments as I did looking through the charming birthday/thank you cards, though for different reasons. I always get a laugh (or at least a smile) here and try to check the blog every day.

What a nice thing to do... spend time with them must have been amazing because they are usually very enthusiastic and idealistic... I am just catching up with blog reading so I want to wish you a great B-Day. Been in NY for a couple of weeks and will be leaving soon and would have love making it to the Martha Blogger event... hopefully next time!!!
