My New Granddaughter in People Magazine!
My daughter, Alexis, attempted for five years to have a baby. At long last, with the help of a medical team, headed by Dr. John Zhang, she was successful. Baby Jude, a six-pound fourteen-ounce girl, was born on March 8th of this year. She is a bright and beautiful and lively little baby. Alexis is extremely happy, as am I, as our family is now growing. Modern medicine can help produce little miracles and Baby Jude is certainly one of them. This story about Alexis and Jude is in People Magazine on newsstands now. If you have not yet seen it, have a look. And please be sure to buy the entire issue.
NEW ISSUE!

Oh Martha, I've been waiting and waiting to see what baby Jude looks like and it was worth the wait. She is beautiful, as is her mother and grandmother.
What will Jude call you?
I know you both have her spoiled by now.:)
Congratulations to Alexis and you!!!

Good Morning Grandmother Martha, Thank you so much for this fantastic blog post about your adorable, beautiful Granddaughter Jude and her happy, beautiful Mother Alexis!! I just finished reading the article and it was so great that Alexis finally got her beautiful child and it sounds like she wants more children!! It was also so great to see that beautiful photos of you and Alexis looking so happy, also! I have a beautiful niece who turned 21 on March 8th, also-how terrific! When I read this blog last night at 9PM, my brother and my niece were out shopping and I called him and he brought me a copy of this delightful magazine! Thanks you so much for sharing this! Sure hope you and your larger family have another wonderful day and weekend! Jan

Thanks for allowing the article to be done. As you say modern medicine can almost perform miracles. Presenting their findings/wonders to others is so important that we all have access to vitial technology. Great pictures, Jude appears to have a patience for camera shoots.
Congratulations for a beautiful girl.

It took me 6 years to have my first daughter 30 years ago and when it took 4 years for her to have her daughter it broke my heart. Now we have Eloise and I retired, after 36 years teaching special needs children, to take care of my Ella.
I know the joy you are feeling at this time. The love one feels as a grandparent is beyond words.

What a STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL BABY! She's so precious and looks like her lovely mommy too. I remember when our 1st grand baby, born to our daughter and son in law (a girl...Riley Grace) was born on Nov. 14, 2001 we were all in HEAVEN! She was the 1st baby for both families and came to be called the 'Golden Child' (never wanted for ANY thing). And I came to be known as a 'baby hog' because I found it nearly impossible to put her down OR 'share her' with family members. We've got 3 more now and they all bring us MUCH joy and laughter.
Martha, ENJOY this little blessing and cherish how tiny she is. Watching them grow up is indeed fun but it's 'bitter sweet'. You simply CAN'T get those 1st years back, even if sometimes you WISH you could. And it get a bit difficult to hold a 9 yr old on your LAP!
God Bless Alexis and little Jude (what a wonderful name) and YOU Grandmother Martha!
From Joanne... (or GrammyJo, as I am to my grand children)

.
A Mother's Dream
.
Be still my heart.
She's too young to know of the eternal love I bring to this child of mine.
Much too young to envisage her world around her;
No dreams of her own, yet.
So much to learn, she has already started I know.
She will break a thousand hearts but be loving and kind to all of Nature's creatures.
Her journey has begun, I must shelter her from evil but give her room to grow, to dance in the rain.
She must learn to look below the reflections to where the real secrets lie.
As I listen to her gentle breathing I slip into shallow sleep waiting to watch her smiles beguile everyone.

Martha, Congrats to you and to Alexis on the birth of your beautiful granddaughter! She truly is a blessing-and after reading about all that Alexis went through with the fertility treatments, the other surrogates and the repeated miscarriages, well little Jude really is a miracle come true. We are all so happy for you, Alexis, and your family. I do hope Alexis will occasionally indulge you when it comes to buying those frilly little girl things for Jude. After all, that's the fun of being a Grandma!

Congratulations! Martha, you becoming a grandmother reminds me of your HuffPo article on the "silvering" of the population. It was an excellent article.
Have you ever considered starting a college scholarship fund for high school students who are willing to volunteer/work at local nursing homes?
My first job, in 1974, was at a nursing home. I worked there for 4 years, (going from 90 cents to $1.25/hr). It was a great experience that I've never forgotten. I learned to care for people. I learned to cook, clean, and do laundry. I learned humility and respect for others who do such jobs. And I learned respect and admiration for the elderly residents, who may have been fading in vitality, but still knew a lot more than I did. Along the way, I learned about death.
I've always said that if I won the lottery, I would start a scholarship fund for any highschool students who would commit to elder care as a job during their senior year. A year of service = a year of college. I'm still hoping to win the lottery. But someone in your position could make it happen now. It's a win-win.
