Braiding Rinze's mane never takes too long - he is such a good boy.
Muffin's house isn't far from my farm, but to get there, the horses had to ride the trailer. Rinze and Ramon are very well-behaved on the road.
Betsy accompanied Rinze and Ramon to Muffin's house. Since I was at my New York office, I planned to meet them there before the ride.
Rinze and Ramon are considered "self-loaders and unloaders" because they are so good at getting in and out of their trailer.
Once they arrived at Muffin's, the boys were saddled up.
Muffin invited several friends to join her for the trail ride through Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Park before the party. Pictured here were Betsy, Muffin, Jenny Eckerson, and Lara Ward.
This was a great opportunity for the horses to try their new fly masks. These lightweight mesh masks by Cashel protect their ears and faces from those pesky biting insects - they don't impair their vision in any way. http://www.cashelcompany.com/
Ramon got his new fly mask, too - they were so easy to put on over the bridles, and they really do help to keep bugs at bay.
I arrived there just in time - we all lined up and headed out for the birthday ride. I rode Rinze.
Betsy rode Ramon.
It was "heels down" and time to go! Muffin led the way on her Palomino pony, Biscuit. Her home is very close to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.
Following closely behind were Jenny's daughter, Sarah Eckerson, Lara's daughter, Mandy Ward, and Lara.
As we continued down the trail, Betsy exclaimed, "it doesn't get any better than this" - Betsy says this on nearly every trail ride. And, Muffin always agrees.
Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is the largest park in Westchester County, New York. The park is 4,315 acres large and has more than 40-miles of trails through the woods, and open meadows.
During the ride, preparations for the party were also underway in one of the meadows of the park.
All the wonderful dishes and refreshments for the party were provided by Anne Neto, owner of Neto's Catering in Mount Kisco, New York. http://www.netoscatering.net
There was fried chicken, potato salad, salmon, hot dogs - everything you need after a good long horseback ride.
The day was perfect - everyone had such a good time. Ward Pound Ridge Reservation includes evergreen plantations, oak, hickory and maple forests and wooded wetlands. The name "Pound Ridge" is credited to the Indians who originally lived in the area.
The many views on the trails were stunning. The Reservation also has two streams, Cross River and Stone Hill River, that run through the park and are home to 13-species of native and stocked fish.
Betsy and I always enjoy riding at the Reservation.
The "birthday girl" Muffin, and her pony, Biscuit, kept track of everyone on the ride.
Rinze also enjoyed riding on the trails. It was a great idea to ride before the party!
The trail ride to the party's location was about an hour long, depending on how fast we rode. Here I was with Betsy, and Jenny.
And, here was Lara Ward enjoying the ride as well!
Muffin and Biscuit made it - the party was ready to begin!
We got to the birthday venue as more guests arrived. Here was Muffin with Elyse Kroll, and Brian Manning.
During the party, everyone got together to sing "America the Beautiful" - here were Cynthia Jaffee, Muffin, Kate Ginnel, and Kathleen Mara.
Cynthia and Doris Siedlitz sang to Muffin and Kate as guests looked on.
Cynthia and Muffin sang the finale - what fun!
Cynthia, Doris and Muffin.
Here I was joined by Muffin, and Cynthia.
Muffin with her son, George. And, that's not a birthday cupcake... it's a birthday muffin, of course.
As the sun set, I got this beautiful photo of the moon.
Look how gorgeous the sky was that night - simply breathtaking.
The evening went on with a summer campfire - a great time was had by all. Happy birthday, Muffin!
