My Allee of Fragrant Lilacs

Here in Bedford, New York, today’s forecast calls for cooler temperatures and more rain.

Yesterday afternoon, just as the outdoor grounds crew finished a busy day of mowing, weeding, and mulching, a powerful weather system ripped through the area with high winds and thundering downpours - if you live in the Northeast, I hope you and your families are okay.

Before the storm, we took photos of my lilac hedges full of colorful and fragrant clusters. You may have seen arrangements on my Instagram page @MarthaStewart48. I love lilacs and have been growing them for many years. In fact, the common lilac, Syringa vulgaris, with its intense fragrance and beautiful blooms, has been part of the American landscape for centuries. Enjoy these images.
